Pair a host
A host is a machine already running your agents. Pair it from the phone or browser and keep the same sessions.
On the host
Either:
-
Desktop app → Manage gateway → Start gateway. The screen shows a QR and
a
spellbook://connect?…URI. - Or in a terminal:
curl -fsSL https://spellbook.nitemaeric.com/install.sh | sh
spellbook gateway --secret "$SPELLBOOK_WS_SECRET" --host 0.0.0.0
Windows: irm https://spellbook.nitemaeric.com/install.ps1 | iex. Default port
is 8787. Keep the secret. The CLI prints the URI and a QR when the terminal can render
one.
On the client
First-run on web and phone puts Connect a host under Cloud sign-in. Later: Manage hosts → Connect host.
-
Phone — scan the QR, open a
spellbook://connectlink, or paste the URI. - Browser — paste the URI, or type host / port / secret.
Manage hosts lists other machines, not this device. Desktop pairing lives on Manage gateway.
What travels
Prompts, permissions, and the host filesystem go over that socket. File I/O never leaves
the host. ssh://user@host names the machine; ACP still goes to the gateway
WebSocket (default 8787).
Away from that Wi-Fi
The desktop app keeps an outbound link to
relay.spellbook.nitemaeric.com. Scan the QR from the phone app on any
network. Nothing else has to be installed. On the same Wi-Fi the phone uses the local
address when that answers faster.
